<current_state> Phase 1 (Foundation) is fully complete. Both plans executed, verified (9/9 must-haves passed), committed, and documented. The project is at the boundary between Phase 1 and Phase 2.

Branch: feature/gps-manager-architecture Last commit: 8e3ad7f docs(01): complete foundation phase </current_state>

<completed_work>

Plan 01-01: Infrastructure, Logger, Constants, Models (12.8 min)

  • Task 1: Directory structure (screens/, widgets/, providers/, models/, config/), Logger utility, 3 constants files (GpsConfig, TimingConfig, OverlayConfig)
  • Task 2: SpeedUnit and ColorThemes moved to config/, ProcessedGpsData/OverlayMessage/ThemeModel extracted to models/
  • Task 3: All imports rewired, 106+ print/customDebugPrint calls replaced with Logger, old files deleted
  • Commits: 2b2fc8f, 5122be4, a0d93d7

Plan 01-02: Screen Extraction (6.8 min)

  • Task 1: SpeedometerScreen (802 lines) extracted to screens/speedometer_screen.dart
  • Task 2: OverlaySpeedometer (303 lines) extracted to screens/overlay_screen.dart, main.dart slimmed to 39 lines
  • Non-blocking checkpoint: Physical device regression testing recommended (not yet performed)
  • Commits: bc36076, ad077d1

Phase completion:

  • Verification: 9/9 must-haves passed (01-VERIFICATION.md)
  • Requirements ORG-01 through ORG-08 marked Complete in REQUIREMENTS.md
  • ROADMAP.md, STATE.md updated
  • Commit: 8e3ad7f </completed_work>

<remaining_work>

Optional before Phase 2:

  • Physical device regression test (non-blocking checkpoint from 01-02)
  • Consider analysis_options.yaml to suppress SCREAMING_SNAKE lint warnings (21 info-level)

Phase 2: Provider Migration (not yet planned)

  • Replace setState with Provider pattern for reactive state management
  • Requirements: STATE-01 through STATE-07
  • Depends on Phase 1 (satisfied)
  • Expected: 2-3 plans
  • HIGH RISK: Async lifecycle complexity needs pre-audit </remaining_work>

<decisions_made>

  • SCREAMING_SNAKE naming for behavioral constants (GpsConfig, TimingConfig, OverlayConfig)
  • Logger utility with 4 severity levels replaces all print()/customDebugPrint() globally
  • OverlayMessage typed class for IPC instead of raw Maps (toMap/fromMap serialization)
  • ThemeModel delegates palette storage to ColorThemes (separation of concerns)
  • Layer-first directory structure (screens/, widgets/, providers/, models/, config/, services/)
  • main.dart as pure entry point (39 lines — main(), overlayMain(), SpeedoApp only) </decisions_made>
None. Phase 1 clean. Phase 2 has known risks documented in STATE.md: - HIGH RISK: 5+ async patterns in SpeedometerScreen need audit before provider migration - GpsDataManager singleton disposal strategy needs design decision - Manual regression testing checklist should be created before Phase 2 The monolithic main.dart (1,133 lines) has been decomposed into a clean modular structure. The app compiles with zero errors (22 info-level warnings, 21 of which are intentional SCREAMING_SNAKE convention). No behavior was changed — this was purely structural.

The codebase is now ready for Phase 2's Provider migration. The key challenge will be threading Provider through the existing async patterns: GPS stream subscription, overlay lifecycle management, timer-based heartbeats, and widget lifecycle observers. SpeedometerScreen alone has 5+ async patterns that need careful handling during the migration.

Phase 3 (Overlay) and Phase 4 (GPS) both depend on Phase 2 but are independent of each other — they could potentially run in parallel after Phase 2 completes.

<next_action> Resume with: /gsd:discuss-phase 2 or /gsd:plan-phase 2

The discuss step is recommended because Phase 2 has HIGH RISK async complexity. Gathering context first (auditing async patterns, deciding GpsDataManager disposal strategy) will produce better plans. </next_action>
